Android in Australia: Ready to Overtake Apple's iPhone?
Android in Australia is now growing according to recent survey reports. This means that Google's Android system is now working its way on top of the smartphone war, thus, is it really close to overtaking Apple as the number one smartphone not only in Australia but all over the world?
Android in Australia: Hit or Miss?
The research study from Kantar WorldPanel revealed that Google Android is gaining a strong footing in most of the seven major markets which include Australia, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United States.
A recent survey revealed the type of smartphone that Australian users own. The survey reveals that out of 520 Australian participants who participated in the survey, 49% have purchased an iOS device while 25% have purchased Android-based smartphones. Symbian received 8% in the survey while the last spots were taken by Windows Phone 7 (4%) and Blackberry (3%).
Based on this survey result, it showed that Apple is still the preferred type of smartphone by Australian customers. Though that is the case, there are other surveys indicating that Google Android is steadily growing despite the heavy competition.
Australians for Apps
As seen in the survey results, it showed that Australians are in the forefront when it comes to the latest technology. This is also evident when it comes to downloading apps. Latest figures showed that Australians have downloaded more than one billion apps since it was launched four years ago. Adelaide Now detailed the figure stating 700 million on iPhones, 64 million on iPads and more than 230 million applications on Android devices.
The report also showed that last March, Australians were able to download a total of 66 million apps-making Australia the fifth country in the world for the number of apps downloaded per person. First place goes to Korea, followed by Sweden, UK, and Denmark. Josh Guest, the managing director for Australian app developer of b2clould remarked that this type of technology is now emerging and its worth is almost tens of millions of dollars to the economy. He stated that "The demand in Australia for apps designed for businesses has skyrocketed beyond supply. More than half of all Australians now have a smartphone and businesses are realising it is a way to connect with those people - they are literally in their customers' pockets."
The main reason identified as to why this industry is growing rapidly is due to a simple yet effective reason: its usefulness to a person's life.
