Android N 7.0 OTA update to be available soon for HTC 10, HTC One M9, HTC One A9
HTC has confirmed through its official Twitter account that the company will be releasing Android N 7.0 to HTC 10, HTC One M9 and HTC One A9. Through the ongoing Google I/O 2016 event, the search engine has officially announced the Android N and all its new features. Other smartphone manufactures are also expected to release the list of smartphones and tablets that will be upgraded to Android N.
The official tweet also states that the timing and other HTC devices to get the latest Android build will be revealed later this year when the search engine starts shipping it to manufacturers. At present, Google has released a stable Android N Developer Preview 3 for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, and Pixel C. The developer preview is also available for Nexus Player, Pixel C tablet and General Mobile 4G Android One.
Google is poised to release the final Android N build in late summer this year. It will be most likely rolling it out Android 7.0 OTA update to the aforementioned Nexus devices. Speculations suggest Android N will hit HTC devices only after it becomes available to eligible Nexus devices.
In the past years, the Taiwanese company was criticized for releasing Android updates at snail’s pace. However, HTC seems to have dealt with the issue pretty well as it already released Android 6.0 and 6.0.1 updates to most of its eligible devices. Hence, HTC is expected to quickly released Android N 7.0 update for its devices this year. Since HTC has confirmed on releasing Android N, other smartphone OEMs are also expected to make such announcements in the near future.
As of this writing, Google has not confirmed on the name for its Android N OS. Google is now seeking assistance from public for deciding on a name for it by submitting their entries here. However, the fine print on the web page states Google will not be awarding any prizes to the participants.
