Andy Murray: Beaten on His Tennis Comeback in Abu Dhabi

World No. 4 Andy Murray was beaten on his comeback match in competitive action three months after undergoing a back surgery. Murray lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 7-5, 6-3, in the Abu Dhabi Mubadala World Tennis Championships.

The Wimbledon champion initially said he wasn't expecting anything. His focused was to simply try to compete again and "be healthy."

"It's very quick courts," said Murray after losing in the match. "So you have to react very quickly," he added. "Jo was a little bit sharper than me and he served really well," said Murray.

Despite the loss, Murray was still in high spirits. He was happy to play and compete again in the tennis court. He was simply looking on the bright side of things and hopeful that he will be better.

"It's nice to be back on the match court and hopefully I can keep getting better," said Murray.

Tsonga, on the other hand, was elated with his victory over Murray, to whom he has an 8-1 career deficit in competitive matches. "I was feeling fine with my body and the knee," Tsonga told USA Today. "This win over someone like Murray is going to give me great confidence as I start the new season," Tsonga added.

In 2009, the British No. 1 was the champion of the Mubadala World Tennis Championships.

Murray will face Stanislas Wawrinka, who lost to David Ferrer in a separate match, for the fifth place play-off. Ferrer will go straight to the semi-finals against fellow Spaniard and World No. 1 Rafael Nadal. Tsonga will face the top 2 player in the world, Novak Djokovic, on Friday.

Murray will play next in Doha and then, in the Australian Open, after the tournament in Abu Dhabi. "Hopefully, I will be in top shape for then," said the 26-year-old Scotsman.
