Andy Murray Takes On Tennis’ All-Time Greats In 2014 ATP World Tour Finals Exhibition Match
British No. 1 Andy Murray was enjoying a lazy afternoon on November 16 playing Mario Kart when he was called to play in an exhibition match after Roger Federer pulled out of the finals at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London. Murray has agreed to play in a one-set exhibition match against finalist Novak Djokovic, but was not able to win over the Serbian athlete, with a final score of 5-8. The Scot's exhibition match didn't end there because he played against the tennis greats John McEnroe, Pat Cash, and Tim Henman next.
Murray first teamed up with McEnroe to take on Cash and Henman in a doubles exhibition match. They have all agreed to take part in the exhibition match without any payment. Then, Murray took on the three legends.
Murray paid tribute to the tennis greats and said that his season has ended on an enjoyable note. "John is a legend of the game," Murray said via his official site. "Tim is someone I followed always when I was growing up and he was really good to me when I joined the tour. Obviously Pat, a former Wimbledon champion, it's just a pleasure to be on the court with these guys," he added. As for his next season, Murray said in a tweet that he will be working and training hard and try to get to his best level.
McEnroe is a former World No. 1. He won 7 Grand slam titles during his illustrious tennis career. He is a four-time US Open champion (1979, 1980, 1981, 1984) and a three-time Wimbledon champion (1981, 1983, 1984). The 55-year-old American bid farewell to the sport in 1992.
Cash is a retired Australian professional tennis player. He won seven career titles in men's singles including the 1987 Wimbledon title. Cash's career-high singles ranking is World No. 4, which he achieved in May 1988. Cash retired from the sport in 1997.
Henman is the former British No. 1. Like Cash, Henman's career-high singles ranking is World No. 4, which he achieved in 2002. He retired from the sport in 1992.
