Angel Di Maria Ordered By Real Madrid To Skip World Cup Final
Angel Di Maria revealed that Real Madrid asked him not to play in the World Cup final. On the day of the World Cup, he received a letter from his former club informing him of the order.
Di Maria, who indicated his resentment against his former club in his farewell letter to his fans, made a stunning revelation. "I got a letter from Madrid that arrived at 11am on the day of the (World Cup final) asking me not to play," Di Maria told the Argentinean radio America y Closs as reported by Metro. He shared that management asked him not to play in the final due to the possibility of aggravating a thigh injury he incurred during the quarterfinals.
He was transferred from Real Madrid to Old Trafford for a Premier League record of £60 million last week. His allegations came after the Real management said they made the best offer to keep Di Maria at Bernabeu, but the player rejected the offer.
Di Maria claimed that Los Blancos pressured him not to play the crucial game against Germany to avoid exacerbating his thigh injury. Later on, Di Maria was not able to play in the final as there was a 90% chance that the winger would get injured. Therefore, he had to watch the rest of the match sitting at the bench. "I was thinking about playing in the final, although I knew that if I did there was a 90 percent chance I'd re-injure myself. When I read it, I ripped up the letter. I suffered a lot that morning," he shared.
Florentino Perez, the Real Madrid Chairman did not want to negotiate as Di Maria's manager claims that the player wanted to remain at the club this summer. The signing of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos was a sign the Argentinean winger wouldn't be playing regularly.
Di Maria also confirmed the rumours that Cristiano Ronaldo has always been on his side and wanted him to stay at the club. Moreover, he revealed that the Portuguese star would not be able to withstand the Real management for long.
Di Maria has made his debut for Manchester United last week in a goalless encounter with Burnley. His team beat the Germans at a friendly game three days ago, in which Di Maria contributed a goal and three assists.
