A-list actress and Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie has called on to the international community to provide support for thousands of displaced individuals fleeing the conflict in Libya.

A staunch advocate and spokeswoman for the United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), Jolie also said in a statement that the need for aid is paramount including those trapped inside the conflict-stricken country.

"The international community has done well to reinforce Tunisia's remarkable relief effort," Jolie said in a UNHCR statement, according to Reuters. "But with 2,000 people still crossing each day, we cannot let the funding dry up and need to sustain the momentum."

A separate report by IBTimes noted that Jolie made a surprise visit to Shousha camp in Ras Jdir, Tunisia, found few kilometers from the border between Libya and Tunisia.

In the UNHCR statement according to Reuters, “The Tourist” actress emphasized the increasing needs for food and medical supplies. Jolie pleaded to the authorities to draw out parameters allowing the United Nations and various non-governmental organizations to find a way to enter Libya and distribute these urgent needs.

Marie-Louise Gumuchian of Reuters said that the Tunisian-Libyan border was erected in early February following the escalation of the conflict in Libya brought by the rebels who revolted against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

An estimated 400,000 people have reportedly escaped from Libya and ran off to Tunisia, Egypt, Niger, Algeria, Chad and Sudan.

The Shousha camp according to UNHCR, has served as the temporary shelter for those arriving from Libya and efforts to respond to the needs of the refugees are being undertaken by the UNHCR and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

A short video shows the actress talking to an unidentified UNHCR personnel involved in the operations at Shousha Camp.

The actress was also seen in the video talking to some refugees expressing her concerns and hopes that her stay at the camp will be their last stop after finding out that most of the refugees have been displaced more than once.
