Angelina Jolie has raised her voice against sexual violence as a strategy of winning wars. She hopes to inspire people to support her fight against rape in war.

"In the Land of Blood and Honey", her debut as a writer-director, received several awards. Even though the film received many accolades in Europe and America, it was yet to release in Japan. Finally the wait is over as the film is going to release in Japan August 10.

Jolie was present in Japan on the launch of her award winning film. Japan has also gone through similar kind of incidents during the World War II when numerous Asian women were forced to be converted into "comfort women" as they provided sexual pleasure to the soldiers. It is still an apple of discord between South Korea and Japan in their strained diplomatic relation.

Even though Jolie did not give her opinion regarding "comfort women", she felt that the movie could influence enough to get united for a cause like rape in war. The United Nations has started working on initiatives to put an end on sexual violence at the time of armed conflicts. Jolie feels that it was Bosnia that suffered sexual violence in war, as depicted in her film. On the other hand, that is exactly what is happening in Syria and Congo these days.

Jolie has always been a prominent figure in expressing her concern over various social issues. Unlike other celebrities who prefer enjoying their wealth and fame on a personal level, Jolie believes in using the same to grow awareness for diverse social causes.

Jolie is involved with "Afghanistan Relief Organization", formed in 1998, which distributes medicine, food, school supplies, winter relief and hygiene supplies. The organization makes education available for more than 800 students. She is also a part of Vital Voices which is responsible for identifying, training, and empowering potential women leaders and entrepreneurs all over the world.

Jolie, along with her partner Brad Pitt, formed Jolie-Pitt Foundation which deals with the adoption and fostering of orphans. The organization also works on poverty, children and HIV/AIDS.
