Angelina Jolie recently went to see the displaced villagers on the Ecuadorian/Colombia border in the run-up to World Refugee Day on Sunday, June 20th.

The American actress, who became a United Nations (U.N.) Goodwill Ambassador in 2001, is an enthusiast to the annual day which higlights the predicaments of refugees all over the world.

For the first time in eight years, Jolie returned to the isolated border hamlet of Barranca Bermeja on Thursday to visit the women and children who were forced to leave their homes because of disputes in the South American region. This was part of her duties with the U.N.

Two days later, she left after a meeting in Shushufindi with Ecuador's President Rafael Correa and other senior government officials.

According to reports, between 50,000 and 170,000 Colombian refugees live near the border due to the ongoing conflicts in the country, which have begun in the 1960s.
