Qantas long-haul pilots launched a new website on Thursday to help concerned Qantas shareholders stand up to current Qantas management and their plans to offshore the iconic airline.

The new site shows Qantas shareholders how they can appoint a proxy and vote against motions at the Qantas AGM on 28 October 2011.

Australian and International Pilots Association (AIPA) Vice President Captain Richard Woodward said that AIPA decided to set up the site in response to the hundreds of inquiries they had received from angry shareholders through their qantaspilots.com website.

“Qantas shareholders, whether they be frequent flyers, pilots or just concerned Australians have been telling us that they want to send a strong message to Alan Joyce and his management team that they want Qantas to remain Australian,” Captain Woodward said.

“Thatʼs why weʼve set up this website. It provides information on how shareholders can assign a proxy and vote against key motions in an effort to make management listen.

Captain Woodward explained shareholders will be able to vote on Mr Joyceʼs new $5 million annual package at the AGM, which he said “is just a staggering amount of money to award a CEO who is simply not doing his job adequately.”

He revealed Qantas pilots were committed to applying as much pressure to management as possible, without disrupting Qantas passengers.

“To date, the only forms of industrial action pilots have taken is in-flight announcements promoting our website and ties with a ʻQantas flight, Qantas pilotʼ message.

“Shareholders own Qantas, not Mr Joyce and his outrageously overpaid team. There is a real mood out there to prove that at the AGM and we want to help in any way we can,” Captain Woodward said.
