Anna Meares Wins 500m Time Trial at the 2014 Commonwealth Games

Anna Meares has not only recollected her crown in the women's 500m Time Trial, but she also ripped a new record in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The champion cyclist has yet proven again that she is Australia's "Queen of Track Cyling."

Shortly after winning gold medal, Meares shared a photo to her followers on Twitter.

Meares' victory came less than 24 hours after she took pride carrying Australia's flag in the opening ceremony. According to the 30-year-old cyclist, she still managed to get some good sleep prior to competing in the event. She said her coach were very "protective and supportive" of her. She added and revealed that she pampered herself before she headed to Glasgow like getting an "ice bath, compression, and massage" to ensure that she will be in the best condition.

Meares has beaten her previous record of 33.758 in the 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games by .03. She reportedly crossed the finish line in 33.435. Still, Meares' fastest record in the women's 500m Time Trial was at the UCI Mexico Track World Cup in 2013 with 32.836, which made her the first woman ever to have gone under 33 seconds in the said event.

With her recent victory at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Meares is now tied Kathy Watt's cycling record at the Commonwealth Games with seven medals.

Meares' attention is now focused on her next competition which is the women's sprint, where she is also the reigning champion.

"I've got a day off and then back here for the qualifying on the Saturday," Meares said via SBS.com.au. "It's a totally different ball game to the individual time trial," Meares added.

Meares is not belittling her next quest for gold in women's sprint. "Speed is only aspect of it and it won't be enough to get me over the line."

"I've got a very big task ahead of me."

Meanwhile, fellow Aussie cyclist Stephanie Morton and England's Jess Varnish claimed the silver and bronze medals in the women's 500m Time Trial, respectively.
