The annual Elvis Express to Parkes was attended by hundreds of Elvis fans and impersonators who were there for the 2014 CountryLink or TrainLink Parkes Elvis Festival which will run from Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 up to Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 at the Parkes Showground in Parkes, Central, New South Wales (NSW), Australia. The Elvis Festival is held every year in time for Presley's birthday on Jan. 8. It is currently on its 22nd anniversary.
It has been years since Elvis Presley, who is also known as 'The King of Rock and Roll," has died and his memory still lives on in the hearts of his die-hard fans. His birthday is still celebrated up to this day. In fact, a lot of people trooped to Parkes Central Station in Australia's NSW just to see the arrival of the Elvis Express.
NSW TrainLink events coordinator Cameron Nicholls told the Sydney Morning Herald that 300 passengers boarded the Elvis Express in 2014 and that they are expecting 15,000 visitors.
According to the Parkes Show Web site, the Parkes Showground is fully booked for the 2014 Elvis Festival.
Elvis Presley was born on Jan. 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. He died at the age of 42 years old on August 16, 1977 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Naturally, there were a lot of older fans who attended the Elvis event such as 51-year-old Michelle Okunzuwa.
''He will always live on in our hearts,'' Okunzuwa said in the Sydney Morning Herald report.
Surprisingly, there were also younger fans who attended the Elvis event like 15-year-old Cherish Sheng-Li Tay and 5-year-old Katie Cotter, who traveled with their parents.
