Samsung announced the launch of the much anticipated iPad competitor Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. The tablet was said to be designed to be more than just a multimedia device but one that could help with productivity at work by Samsung's press release.

"GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus is for those who want to stay productive and in touch with work, friends and content anytime, anywhere." claimed JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung's Mobile Communications Business. The tablet specs flaunt enhanced portability, advanced productivity and a rich multimedia device on the move. The device operates on Android Honeycomb 3.2.

The tablet has a 7 inch screen, weighs 345g and only 9.96 mm thick, thinner than most magazines. It can be carried in a pocket or carried in a small bag. Inside the small package is a 1.2 Ghz dual core processor. The device can handle 7 open mini apps at the same time. Access any of them at the bottom of the screen.

Top Features

The screen itself is a 7-inch WSVGA(1024X600) PLS LCD. As usual there are front and rear cameras. The rear camera has a 3 Top features Megapixel capacity while the front camera has 2 Megapixels. There are various sensors on the device including an accelorometer, gyro sensors, Digital compass, Ambient Light sensors and Proximity sensors. It has a gig of memory and a microSD expandable memory up to 32GB. The tablet would come in 32 GB or 64 GB model. The tablet is also equipped with bluetooth, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11, Wi-Fi Channel bonding & Wi-Fi Direct. Wireless internet connections is made possible by HSPA.

The Galaxy Tab 7 features improved applications like the virtual clipboard, Social Hub, Readers Hub and Music Hub services. The Social Hub takes all your contacts, email, calendar schedules, instant messages and social network connections into one application for easy use. Readers Hub takes care of all your e-reading needs while the Music Hub organizes and plays your songs. Both Readers Hub and Music Hub will be available for download after launch. There will also be additional Samsung apps like Samsung Kies 2.0 bundled with the tablet. Google Mobile Services is also bundled with the tablet with Gmail, Google Talk, Google Search, YouTube, Android Market and Google Maps.

Where will it be available?

The GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus will be available starting in Indonesia and Austria at the end of October and afterwards released globally including Southeast and Southwest Asia, US, Europe, CIS, Latin America, Middle East, Africa, Japan and China. There are still no information about an Australian release or the price of the tablet as of yet from the press release or other news outlets. It can be speculated that the recent release of the Kindle's price may have been factored in the last moment for the device's launch price. There is also no indication of a price cut on older models of the Galaxy Tab.
