Apple (AAPL) Plans Flickr and Vimeo Integration
Software analysts predicted that Apple is making an innovation with its iPhone, iPad and iPod operating system, iOS7. Apple saw a big potential to include third-party social media channels to the operating system, two of which are Flickr and Vimeo.
Just like with iOS's Facebook and Twitter integration, iPhone, iPad and iPod user will just have to log in to their social media accounts and have the convenience of sharing their photos and files across all networks.
Flickr Integration
Flickr users enjoy its photo sharing platform. Yahoo owns Flickr and recently appointed Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer had reportedly met with Apple executives to confer about how Yahoo's integration with iOS can be strengthened. Market analysts predicted that one way to address this is through Flickr integration. Yahoo provides Apple's bundled Weather and Stock applications data.
If the said Flickr integration pushes through, then iPhone, iPAd and iPod touch users will have easy access to share their potos taken with their devices to their Flickr accounts just with a simple tap.
Flickr was already been included into the iPhoto App Store app and OS X Mountain Lion since 2012 but as a paid app. Users would still have to manually log-in to their Flickr accounts.
If the rumored integration happens, the Flickr will be deeply embedded to the entire iOS operating system and users need not to log-in separately with all their Flickr-related apps.
However, some mobile analysts expressed doubts saying that the Flickr integration might just overlap with Apple's own photo-sharing network, Instagram. The Instagram application already allows users to share their photos to Flickr. There is nothing unique that the Flickr integration can offer.
The Flickr integration would likely to work as how facebook and Twitter work with the new iOS integration.
Vimeo Integration
Vimeo, on the other hand, will be a big addition to iOS7 since Apple had already removed all Google services from its product listings. Vimeo is going to be the only video-sharing platform if the integration happens. Besides, it is already included into the Mac operating system with Mountain Lion.
It is to be recalled that Apple removed its in-house You Tube video viewing app from iOS last year, though, iPhone, iPad and iPod users are still allowed to upload a video from their devices quickly to YouTube.
Sources from Apple refuse to confirm the said Vimeo integration.
Flickr and Vimeo
Flickr and Vimeo are both the strongest competitor against more popular social media sites Facebook and Twitter. If both Flickr and Vimeo will be integrated to iOS7, then the competition against Facebook and YouTube will be bottle-neck and users will be enjoying more options as these platforms try to go up one notch from one another.
For Flickr and Vimeo, the integration will definitely boost their growth in the market as what happened to Twitter after its being embedded to Apple's operating system.
In the months following the Twitter integration into iOS5, Twitter reported a 25 per cent increase with the number of new members signing up for the site.
