performance test on several GPUs including Qualcomm Adreno 420 and Samsung Mali T-760. Apple A8X managed to beat NVIDIA's 32-bit Tegra K1 on GFX 2.7 T-Rex 1080p off-screen and GFX 3.0 Manhattan 1080p off-screen.

A8X graphics chipset on Apple iPad Air 2 was able to beat NVIDIA Tegra K1 on two 1080p off-screen tests, which determine performance in raw power. According to images from GSMArena, Apple A8X scored higher and ranked at the top versus NVIDIA Tegra K1 on GFX 2.7 T-Rex 1080 off-screen and GFX 3.0 Manhattan 1080p off-screen.

NVIDIA Shield Tablet managed to beat Apple iPad Air 2 because its default resolution is 1080p, which matches the on-screen tests, unlike the iPad Air 2, which has a higher display resolution. Frame rate of iPad Air 2 on T-Rex on-screen reaches up to 52.4 fps and 70.4 fps off-screen.

iPad Air 2's frame rate on Manhattan ranges from 24.5 to 32.4 fps on-screen and off-screen. Remember that NVIDIA Shield Tablet uses the 32-bit model of Tegra K1, not the 64-bit model reported on HTC Nexus 9, which scored higher than Adreno 420 and Mali T-760.
