Apple iPhone 6 Release Date, Pricing, Body Only 6 mm Thick: Latest Rumor
According to the rumour mill, the next iPhone will be named iPhone Air instead of iPhone 6, hinting a brand new thin body just like the iPad Air. The latest rumours confirm this, saying that the next iPhone is going to be just 6-mm thick and slightly more in weight. The main look will not differ much from the iPhone 5S, though.
The look of Apple's next iPhone is one hot topic this year, but there haven't been a lot of rumours about body thickness, apart from the numerous speculations about its screen size and display. However, based on the latest leaks, the next iPhone is going to have an extremely thin form of around 6 mm as compared to the iPhone 5S' 7.6 mm form.
There are also rumours saying the iPhone 6 or iPhone Air will have the same appearance as the iPhone 5S, with its three-section back. According to a report by CrossMap, this rumour matches what was previously illustrated by WeChat tipster TD's Home.
The same report cites the source as saying that the two iPhones were undergoing some lab tests and will have 4.7- and 5-inch screens. The source also confirmed that the 4.7-inch screen is going to have full metal construction. In this case, it is then consistent with speculations saying the new iPhone will add more weight.
According to TD's Home, out of the two iPhones being tested, one body will have a 172:67 ratio. The site speculates that if the iPhone 6's touchscreen is 4.7 inches and assuming it will retain the Home Button, having a body that's longer than the Galaxy S4 with a 5-inch screen would seem reasonable. Combining it with the reports saying the appearance of the iPhone 6 will not change drastically, it can probably be assumed to that the latest iPhone is a "blown-up" one, the site speculated further.
It is not yet confirmed whether the next iPhone will be called iPhone Air or iPhone 6, but according to TD's Home, the iPhone 5S will be priced down this May to $100 and if this is true, then the brand new iPhone could be launched concurrently and would be priced at $199 with a 2-year contract. Release date is rumoured to be on Q3 2014. Other features rumoured to be included in the new iPhone 6 are the finger- and/or eye-scanning technology, NFC and a wraparound screen.
