Apple releases iPhone iOS 10 update that enables Siri to use apps and learn from users and developers
Siri becomes the ultimate virtual assistant in iOS 10
Apple’s new iOS 10 enables users and developers teach Siri new things like searching for a ride in Uber. The new iOS update upgrades Siri into the ultimate virtual assistant. Siri is now able to use installed apps, transforming the apps into voice prompt.
Apple has released the “SiriKit” to developers together with the iOS 10 update. The SiriKit gives developers the tools to program apps to be compatible with Siri. This means developers can fully tap into Siri’s potential together with whatever apps created.
Users can potentially ask Siri to search for restaurants in the area and recite the respective reviews. Siri can set up appointments and book flights with a quick “Hey Siri” voice command. Users can search and play music without unlocking the iPhone with the help virtual assistant Siri.
Users can now teach and correct Siri with the new iOS 10 update. iPhone users are able to correct Siri when they misspell or mispronounce names and things. This combined with the info Siri gathers from using installed apps is basically a crash course for Siri.
Any iPhone user can download the iOS 10 update and try the new features. However, the new iOS is still in beta and requires a unit no older than iPhone 5 to use. The older models are reported to experience more bugs than newer models as well. The completed iOS is expected to be released either in August or September.
Bug reports include crashing apps, apps failing to load and iPhones switching to 3G. There is also the risk of iPhone units completely freezing up.
Apple also teases users with MacOS, watchOS and tvOS being released simultaneously with iOS. MacOS lets owners use Siri to communicate with their Macs. The Photos app and Safari were updated with new features.
WatchOS 3 increases the app launch time and redesigns the user interface. Switching between apps and watch faces was improved. TvOS 10 updates the Apple TV with a dark mode.
Users are warned to be careful in downloading these updates as they are still in beta. There is a chance for devices to malfunction and reverting the devices to a stable state may prove difficult. It is advised to wait for the completed versions instead.
