Are we getting a first look of Apple's iPhone 5S and iPad 5 and their killer features by the end of June this year?

New reports suggest Apple is keen to out the two hotly-anticipated devices on June 29 in an exclusive event dubbed 'Original Passion, New Ideas'. It coincides with the sixth year anniversary of the original iPhone, which the late Steve Jobs introduced in June 2007.

According to Matthew Lucas of Gizmorati, "the iPhone 5S and the iPad 5 will be unveiled during a special event ... to reconquer the public and reassure the investors."

Not that the tech giant is in deep trouble but Apple CEO Tim Cook appears springing into action following the gains achieved by Android handsets that seemed to have erased the invincibility enjoyed by the iPhone in the past few years.

Two years ago, no rival could even measure up to Apple's twin supremacy in the smartphone and tablet arena. Now, Samsung is running neck to neck with the U.S. firm while other Android manufactures are fast catching up.

With the perception that its lone leadership in the mobile device industry is a thing of the past, share values of Apple stocks have been consistently plummeting, engendering restiveness to company shareholders.

However, many analysts believe Apple is regaining its composure this year following its failure to arrest the rise of Samsung's Galaxy handsets that started early last year when the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 was unboxed.

According to Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, Apple is fully geared up to unleash killer features for its 2013 gadget cycle, specifically for the iPhone 5S.

"This iPhone 5S cycle this year will be about a killer feature that drives consumers increasingly to the (iOS) platform," Ms Huberty told CNBC in an interview.

While the analyst contends that the recently launched Galaxy S4 is without a killer feature, Apple's killer feature remains a matter of speculations as many experts believe that the iPhone 5S represents mere refresh of its predecessor, the iPhone 5.

More attention is trained on the reported two new smartphone flavours from Apple - a budget iPhone version and its take on the phablet competition, the iPhone 6.

Analysts are convinced the gadgets will reveal cutting-edge technologies and offerings that will be absent from the 5S. The cheaper iPhone is believed to rollout with affordable prices while the iPhone 6 will likely introduce the ability for owners to write on their phones using ordinary pens or pencil, which are convincingly killer features.
