Apple's Black Friday Profit Portion Will Be Donated To Support Global Fight Against AIDS
The giant tech company has launched a two-week campaign in-lieu to its advocacy to support World AIDS Day 2014 by sourcing funds from sales and donations through a special segment in the App Store called Apps for (RED). This section will offer twenty five exciting apps where in 100 percent of proceeds will be intended to the Global Fund to fight AIDS. Sales from Apple's retail and online shops all over the world will be derived from two major shopping events: Black Friday on Nov. 28 and Cyber Monday on Dec. 1.
The two-week fundraising program starts from Nov. 24 and will end on Dec. 7. The donations will be generated in different ways. Within the given campaign period, funds coming from the sales of the 25 apps included in the RED app will be donated to the Global Fund.
On Black Friday, loyal Apple customers will get a special edition iTunes gift card when they purchase a certain (RED) Apple product. For each gift card that comes with the sold product, the company will in turn donate a still unrevealed percentage to the Global Fund, CNET reports.
On the other hand, portion of every sale on Cyber Monday (Dec. 1) at all Apple retail and online stores will also be donated. According to Bono, co-founder of RED, Apple's advocacy to fight AIDS also sets the bar in the business world as the giant company is giving US$75 million and counting to the Global Fund as part of its partnership with RED.
Looking back, the partnership between Apple and RED, a charitable institution founded by U2 lead performer Bono to stop HIV/AIDS in Africa began in 2006 with the tech giant donating $10 for every sold iPod Nano Red Special Edition
Apps for RED happen to be the first global App Store initiative that will support RED. The following are some of the 25 app developers which have created a RED-inspired content: Angry Birds, Bubble Witch 2 Saga, Clash of Clans, Cut the Rope 2, Despicable Me: Minion Rush, Farmville 2, FIFA 15 Ultimate Team, Frozen Free Fall and Sims Free Play, Business Wire reports.
