Tech giant Apple, Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) unveiled its latest generation of iPad yesterday, which is the first tablet that is able to connect to 4G network. However, this feature will not work yet in Australia.

Apple held another major event that launched another amazing iOS device, the highly anticipated iPad 3. The new tablet is now equipped with dazzling features, a high definition screen display, and voice dictation among others. Moreover, this is the first tablet that is able to connect to 4G mobile networks.

However, this major feature and selling point of iPad 3 will not be enjoyed by Australians as it is incompatible with the only 4G network in the country. The new iPad is the first Apple device that will use 4G mobile internet connection. This means that the connection will be five times faster than the connection offered by current networks. Unfortunately, this is found incompatible with Telstra's 4G as it uses a different frequency compared to the 4G networks based in the United States.

Aside from 4G capabilities, the new iPad gets a boost on screen size and now has a 9.7-inch screen, which doubles the resolution (2048x1536) to a high-definition "Retina" display similar to the iPhone 4. Moreover, the new iPad sports a more powerful processor compared to its predecessor and of iPhone 4S' with its new 1.5GHz dual-core A5X chip with quad-core graphics processing. This will enable the device to use more demanding apps, software and games.

Apple also improved the rear camera of the device, although stopped short and settled with 5-megapixel resolution. However, the company added a backlit sensor and hybrid infrared filter for better colour reproduction. The voice dictation for hands-free use of the device will be able to recognise Australian accent.

The recent Apple media event marks the first real test for Tim Cook as Apple's chief executive officer. Mr. Cook said that the new tablet created a new category for tablets. "We think that iPad is the poster child of the post-PC world,'' is Mr. Cook's firm statement.

Apple retained its competitive price of US$499 for the new tablet. iPad 3 will arrive on Sydney and Melbourne Apple stores on March 16.
