APVMA invites comment on Australian agricultural chemical labels
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicine Authority (APVMA) is revising labelling requirements for agricultural and veterinary (agvet) chemicals.
Under new legislation, agvet labels must continue to provide information that identifies the product, how it is to be used, stored and disposed, and what to do in case of poisoning, as well as other information.
The size, type and format of agvet labels is now governed by the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Code Regulations 1995.
The new labelling template is designed to improve the efficiency of the approval process for both applicants and the APVMA.
The amendments follow changes in Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) legislation that no longer require agvet labels to be assessed on colour and presentation, as well as other company information.
The APVMA has invited feedback on the draft instructions for using the new labelling template. Stakeholders have until 5 August 2011 to comment.
