All great things come to an end even if he is your childhood buddy Archie.

The iconic comic book character Archie who became your best friend during childhood will die on Wednesday, July 16. The final instalment of "Life with Archie" will leave him dead while trying to save his best friend. Archie will take the bullet for his friend Kevin Keller and say goodbye to his friends in Riverdale. He will also bid farewell to his friends all over the planet, who have grown up reading about his life in words and pictures.

Archie's death was already announced in April 2014. The details of his death are out now. According to Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater, Archie will die a heroic death. "The way in which Archie dies is everything that you would expect of Archie. He dies heroically. He dies selflessly. He dies in the manner that epitomises not only the best of Riverdale but the best of all of us. It's what Archie has come to represent over the past almost 75 years," he said.

Kevin, the friend Archie dies for, is the first openly gay character in the comic series. It was in 2010 when he joined the famous group of Archie's friends Veronica Lodge, Jughead Jones, Reggie Mantle and Betty Cooper. He is a military veteran who has recently been elected as a senator. He is shown fighting for stricter gun control legislation in Riverdale.

Archie's death while saving Keller apparently comes with a message which will "resonate with the world." According to Goldwater, it is the birth of a new Riverdale when Archie saves Kevin. "He could have saved Betty. He could have saved Veronica. We get that, but metaphorically, by saving Kevin, a new Riverdale is born," he said. The co-CEO, on the other hand, is not willing to reveal who is going to shoot Archie to death.

Archie Andrews, the fictional comic character, was originally created by Bob Montana and Vic Bloom in 1941.
