ARIAs 2014: Noticeably Absent ‘Chandelier’ Singer Sia, ‘Fancy’ Rapper Iggy Azalea Won Big, Katy Perry, Charli XCX Step In
"Chandelier" singer, Sia and "Fancy" rapper Iggy Azalea won big at the ARIAs 2014, but both were noticeably absent on the Australian awards show. Katy Perry and Charli XCX received awards of Aussie stars on their behalf.
Two of the most successful Aussie stars this year, whose songs made it across the world, Sia and Iggy Azalea won big in the ARIAs. "Chandelier" singer Sia won four awards. However, both female artists did not grace the awards with their presence and disappointed their fans, News.com.au reports.
Sia probably did not expect to win that many on the awards show and was only able to record one "thank-you" video. She was not able to send anyone in her place. Katy Perry announced the "Best Female Artist" award for Sia and received it on her behalf. Sia also won the "Best Pop Release," "Best Video" and the most prestigious award of the night -- "Album of the Year" for her "1000 Forms of Fear."
Some fans of the star, who is quite known for being shy, took to Twitter to express their disappointment that they did not get to hear from her, even through a video. Twitter user @cameron_adams wrote, "Not even a video acceptance speech from Sia? #ARIAs"
On the other hand, Charlie XCX, Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" collaborator received the "Best Breakthrough Artist" for her. "I'm going to drop it off to her and she's going to enjoy it," Charli XCX said.
Because Iggy performed in the American Music Awards with Jennifer Lopez but could not be in the ARIAs, her fans were displeased. Twitter users claimed she already forgotten about Australia and that the country does not mean much to her anymore.
Meanwhile, boy bands 550S and One Direction won awards and made girls swoon! Sydney boy band 5 Seconds of Summer, most widely known simply as 5SOS, got "Song of the Year" for the band's single "She Looks So Perfect," which has attained first spot on the music charts across five countries. The band expressed their happiness and pride, saying this is the first award they received for their music careers. British boy band, One Direction had girls screaming on the red carpet before the ceremony and in the end, won the "Best International Artist Award" for the third time consecutively.
