Fans of the show "Arrested Development" can finally rest easy. The cult classic television comedy is back with a mini-season and a movie.

The long road to get back "Arrested Development" began just as soon as it was cancelled in 2006 after three seasons. Since then the comedy has gained a cult following and fans have been petitioning for the show's return. Stars Jason Bateman, Michael Cera and Will Arnett have done their best to keep interest alive and have promised that a movie was in the works. Now the wait is over as Mitchell Hurwitz finally announced to the "Arrested Development" fans at a New Yorker festival event that a series of television episodes will lead up to an eventual movie.

"We don't completely own the property, there are business people involved and studios and that kind of thing," creator Mitch Hurwitz said on Sunday, on a NY Times report. "Creatively, I have been working on the screenplay for a long time and found that as time went by, there was so much more to the story. In fact, where everyone's been for five years became a big part of the story. So in working on the screenplay, I found even if I just gave five minutes per character to that back story, we were halfway through the movie before the characters got together."

The series will be back with episodes dedicated to explore the main cast as a lead in to the movie.

"We're trying to do a limited-run series into the movie," Hurwitz said amid excited applause from the fans. "We're basically hoping to do nine or 10 episodes, with almost one character per episode."

The news was met with cheers from both the fans and the cast. Jason Bateman had recently told Entertainment Weekly that he couldn't give more details about the movie. He was finally able to break the silence to his fans over his twitter page.

"It's true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early '13. VERY excited!" lead actor Jason Bateman tweeted.
