Despite going down to 10 men, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was delighted with the victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday in the English Premier League.

"I believe we have gained a maturity and even down to 10 men you never felt that we were really in trouble," Wenger told arsenal.com.

The French manager reiterated that his squad deserved as much credit because they were able to perform well against a determined Palace squad in spite of not being in top team-shape.

"We got the second goal and our victory is maybe a bit underrated because Palace were good opponents on the day. They were massively strong, very disciplined and overall you needed something special to win the game and we did that," he added.

The Gunners have scored 20 goals in the Premier League, while conceding only 9 with 9 games played and Wenger is content with his team's overall performance.

"[The result] also reflects the desire and the ambition of the team because we are ready to put that effort in. If you look at our offensive record it looks very good and our defensive record is good. That's what we want to keep working on," he disclosed.

Wenger brushed off concerns about silverware or the lack thereof and insisted that the squad should focus on their day-to-day objectives for them to be able to complete the bigger picture - racking up wins.

"We don't mind [the lack of title talk]. We want to be considered a very strong team and that only comes with the way we play and with our results so let's just focus on that," he said.

Arsenal's next objective is to get the better out of the Jose Mourinho-led Chelsea on Tuesday, as they meet in the Round of 16 of the Capital One Cup.
