According to Variety, Ashton Kutcher may have landed himself one of the most enviable roles to play in a movie as he is reported to star as Apple's co-founder Steve Jobs.

The 34-year-old actor, who has earned a lot of controversies last year due to his split with Demi Moore will take the lead in an indie biopic titled "Jobs." The film is set to tackle Steve Jobs' life from a wayward college dropout to a phenomenal success.

The script is written by Matt Whiteley and will be directed by Michael Stern. Five Star Institute's Mark Hulme will produce the film which is expected to roll for filming in May.

Kutcher is currently on break from his CBS hit series "Two and a Half Men" wherein he plays an internet billionaire Walden Schmidt.

While reports about Kutcher's upcoming project surfaces, Sony is also reportedly working on its own Steve Jobs biopic. The company has bought the film rights from Walter Isaacson's biography which was published weeks after Jobs' death.

Ashton is known for his comedic roles starting from "That 70's Show" where he starred alongside a young Mila Kunis. Other romantic comedy films of him include "What Happens in Vegas" and "Killers."

Back in 2009, the actor became the first Twitter user to hit the 1 million mark of followers. And talking about his entrepreneurial skills, Kutcher has invested in several technology companies like Skype and Foursquare.
