Bashar al-Assad has warned the Obama government to be prepared for "every" kind of reaction if it decides to launch a military strike against Syria.

The Syrian president was interviewed by CBS television as he denied any involvement in the suspected chemical attack on the Syrian civilians on Aug 21, 2013. On the contrary, the U.S. government has repeatedly stated that it found strong evidence against the Syria government that it was involved in the chemical attack near Damascus.

President Barack Obama has emphatically voiced his opinion in favour of a military attack on the Assad government as a punitive reply to the killing of over 1,400 people in the chemical attack. On the other hand, President Assad has blamed the rebel groups in the country to be responsible for the poisonous gas attack. He has warned that the United States of America should expect every kind of repercussions if it does opt for a military assault against Syria.

The repercussions will take both direct and indirect forms, said President Assad in the televised interview conducted in Damascus by CBS. He further clarified that the indirect consequence of the U.S. military attack would include a spread of terrorist activities which would directly influence the West. He did not deny the possibility of hostile reactions against the U.S. from other countries like Lebanon or Iran.

Meanwhile, Mr Assad has welcomed Russia's proposal to turn over all the chemical weapons possesses by Syria. The U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry had suggested the same before Russia and the U.N. joined the appeal to Syria. On the contrary, the Obama administration does not find Mr Assad's intentions transparent.

Mr Obama is already facing a lot of opposition in the U.S. and abroad against the military strike on Syria. Mr Kerry said on Monday that the situation could be resolved if Mr Assad surrendered his arsenal to the international community. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how Congress votes after Syria agrees to turn chemical weapons over.
