'Assasin's Creed' movie to use more practical effects than green screens; Michael Fassbender confirms
“Assasin’s Creed” lead cast member Michael Fassbender revealed in a recent interview that the movie will be using more practical effects rather than green screens. The movie is based on a video game series that is known for exciting visuals and graphics.
In an interview with Empire magazine, Fassbender (Callum Lynch) revealed that one “unusual” aspect of his forthcoming movie is that there will be more practical effects in it, Birth Movies Death reports. “We have stunt guys jumping across buildings in (Maltese capital) Valletta. We’ve got (stunt man) Damian Walters doing a 120-foot leap of faith, without any rope, into a bag, so it’s pretty incredible to see,” the actor said.
The actor revealed that although the video games from the franchise are highly action oriented, the movie will not be too violent. He said that the “cool” aspect of the movie is that the action scenes are on “real sets and real locations.”
For Fassbender, the approach to the movie always reminded him of “The Matrix” movies, The Hollywood Reporter reports. The actor was referring to the part of the video games in which the protagonist is able to access the memories of his ancestors in dream like sequences.
“This idea of DNA memory elevates it from a basic fantasy genre [piece], because you have something an audience can actually believe in,” Fassbender said. The actor felt that the journey in “Assasin’s creed” will be much more “elevated” because the audience will be “onboard in a different way.”
The plot of the movie revolves around the protagonist Callum Lynch, who gains the memories of his ancestor through a revolutionary new technology. Callum’s ancestor is a master assassin who lived in Spain during the 15th century.
“Assasin’s Creed” movie has been directed by Justin Kurzel. The movie is slated to be released on Dec. 21, 2016 in the US.
