Attention Hollywood! Viagra May Cause Blindness And Extreme Eye Problems
A new study has now made official that the use of Viagra could cause blindness in men with major or even minor pre-existing eye problems. The blue pill can reportedly wreak havoc on men's eye health, especially on those suffering from retinitis pigmentosa, which is a rare hereditary eye condition that could eventually lead to blindness.
It is a common fact that sildenafil, which is an ingredient in Viagra and other medications of erectile dysfunction, can cause temporary vision problems in perfectly healthy men as well. As per Daily mail, it is now revealed in a study by Australian researchers that the anti-impotence drug can cause permanent damage to the eyes of the patients suffering from retinitis pigmentosa.
About one in every 50 people has a chance of carrying the defective gene of the disease. The use of blue pill can affect those people, as well as those carrying at least one gene linked with eye problem. Researchers from the University of New South Wales have tested sildenafil and its effects on healthy and mutant mice.
The news has come in time with the strings of confessions by many celebrities of their alleged use of Viagra. In the 2009 episode of 'Keeping up with Kardashians', Rob Kardashian accidentally drank a coffee with a small dose of the pill in it and was seen suffering throughout the episode.
In 2005, renowned actor Ashton Kutcher confessed to Glamour magazine that he has often tried the little wonder pill, but refuted various claims by multiple sources that he is addicted to it.
E!Online also named Ben Affleck as once being the victim of this anti-impotency drug. He admitted that he tried using it once, and described the whole experience as quite disappointing. As told to Playboy magazine, Affleck claimed to almost suffered from a heart attack after taking the drug.
However, not everybody is unhappy about Viagra's effects. Some celebrities have credited it as a saviour in their marriages. As told by Daily mail, Michael Douglas confessed that using wonderful enhancements, such as Viagra and Cialis, helped him bridge the gap in his marriage with the much younger star Catherine Zeta-Jones.
No matter how popular this prescription drug is in Hollywood, as well as around the world, its side effects should be considered every time anyone even considers popping it.
