Ausfilm announced on Monday it has appointed Debra Richards as its new chief executive officer. Ms Richards, who has over 20 years communications & media industry experience most recently as CEO of the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA), commences her new role today and will be based at Ausfilm's Sydney offices at Fox Studios in Sydney.

According to Ausfilm, she also spent over 13 years with the broadcasting regulator then the Australian Broadcasting Authority.

Ausfilm Chairman Alaric McAusland said, "We are extremely fortunate to have secured someone of the calibre of Debra at this critical time for the local and international screen production sector.

"Debra is a highly experienced CEO and Executive Director with experience gained in both private and public sectors. She is an acknowledged communications expert with a network that extends throughout the media industry and across the political spectrum. "

"Above all else Debra has a passion for our wonderful film and television production industry, her exceptional leadership and relationship building skills will be critical to Ausfilm's capacity to further enhance Australia's position as a leading global destination for screen production," Mr McAusland said.

Ausfilm is a partnership organisation between private industry and government. It comprises Australia's Federal, State and Territory Governments around 30 private-sector companies.

With offices in Los Angeles and Sydney, the organisation provides the international film community with direct access to Australia's screen incentives, talent and facilities. It
