It was through their fans over at Facebook that the Aussie band, TONK, found out that the popular US television sitcom 'How I Met Your Mother' played their song in one episode without getting their permission.

The rock band from Canberra got alerted only when fans started congratulating them upon hearing their song on the said show. According to the band's drummer, they found out it was their song 'Golden Girl' which was used and heard by fans during the sixth episode of the sixth season of the show.

Tristan Davies, the drummer, said over the Hack Program that it was their song, but it was not them who was playing it. But anyone would notice that the tones of the guitar and the groove of the drums were all played similar.

Settling The Issue Early On

Before things got even too serious with the matter, the band said during the same interview that there were eventually informed by their US agent that their songs were sent to various studios to be possibly considered for shows, advertisements, and movies. The song which fans heard was submitted to Fox who eventually used it for the show 'How I Met Your Mother.'

TONK got a large amount of pay from the Fox Broadcasting Company which according to the drummer was way bigger than if they were asked formally first for the licensing fee if the original version was used.

The band even got paid again when Fox used it again for season seven since it remained in the list of the approved songs of the series.
