Dr. Mark Hobart, an Australian doctor, is in hot water of losing his medical license after refusing to abort a pregnant woman who wanted to have a baby boy. The mother wanted an abortion because she and her husband do not like a baby girl. Hobart reportedly refused to do it and did not refer the couple to another doctor.

The pregnant mother consulted another doctor and the procedure was held a few days after Hobart's refusal. Hobart is a 55-year-old Catholic with 30 years of experience as a medical practitioner. With his gesture, the Medical Board of Victoria is considering to revoke his licence. However, the law said no referral is required since Australia has lenient abortion laws.

According to Hobart and his lawyers, they were being denied the necessary information to help him in his defense. He repeatedly requested for data from his accusers and more details of the complaint against him but the Board refused to grant his plea.

Victorian MP Christine Campbell had introduced a statement to the Legislative Council in behalf of Hobart and proposed an inquiry of the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency.

In defense of his actions, Hobart said he did not know any doctor who would be willing to abort a healthy baby only because the parents want another gender. This type of abortion is known as sex-selection abortion. The doctor said he and his colleagues were repulsed at the idea.

Hobart noted it is unreasonable to obey abortion laws because he knew they were wrong. Victoria's abortion laws are considered "the most extreme in the world" and they were promoted by a bipartisan feminist agenda. Such laws were being used against doctors who refused to perform selective abortion and kill a female fetus. Other reports claimed the number of female babies is in a state of decline in patriarchal societies like India.
