Australian consumers have found themselves appalled at recent report uncovering taxpayers Down Under are paying 50 to 100 percent more than the U.S. buyers of the same technology products. The report by the parliamentary IT pricing inquiry committee enrages the tech consumers, who helped complete the report that began in 2012.

The IT Pricing Committee from the House of Representatives has released its parliamentary report that looked into the “price gouging” of Aussie tech consumers patronizing tech goods, including computers, notebooks, operating systems, software and gaming. It revealed that Aussie consumers are being ripped off twice the price American buyers are paying for the same products.

The parliamentary report is part of the initiatives made by Congress that began last year.

"Australian consumers and businesses, however, must often pay much more for their IT products than their counterparts in comparable economies. In many cases Australians pay 50 to 100 per cent more for the same product." the report said, according to The Australian.

These findings are based on 133 submissions and 15 supplementary submissions from angry consumers who worked with the parliamentary personnel to complete the report by providing detailed accounts of their consuming behavior and experiences paying for tech goods at jacked-up prices.

"Evidence presented to this inquiry left little doubt about the extent and depth of concern about IT pricing in Australia. Consumers are clearly perplexed, frustrated and angered by the experience of paying higher prices for IT products than consumers in comparable countries,” the report added.

The chair of the IT pricing committee that conducted inquiry, South Australian Labor MP Nick Champion reiterated that the parliamentary office uncovered that Australians are being charged by big IT companies an extra 50-percent on tech products as part of the consumption practices Aussies refer to as the “Australia Tax.”

The report findings are expected to get tech consumers talking and raise their plights on the high prices they have been paying for on tech goods.
