'Austin Powers’ Actor Gets Life Sentence for Rape, Torture
A former martial artist and actor in "Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery" has been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the gang rape and torture of a Southern California woman in 1990.
Joseph Hyungmin Son was found guilty to torture and other felony charges. Co-defendant Lopez Gaitan was sentenced to 17 years and four months after pleading guilty to five felonies including kidnapping and sodomy last January.
According to the victim's affidavit, in the Christmas Eve of 1990, a then 19-year-old woman was kidnapped as she was walking her dog near her apartment. She was repeatedly raped and sodomized by two men at the back of the car while they drove her to Huntington Beach.
The woman was tortured and threatened. The suspects released the woman; naked, badly injured and blindfolded with her pants. She went home and called the police. Forensic was immediately collected from the victim, but the case stagnated and went nowhere.
The case was reopened in 2008 when Son was required to give a DNA sample after violating his probation and pleading guilty to felony vandalism. His DNA was linked to the evidence found in the 1990 rape case.
According to the spokesperson of the Orange County district attorney Farrach Emami, the statute of limitations already expired the rape charges.
The victim said the incident caused intense emotional scars and horrific memories that return every Christmas, as well as costing her her job in a salon.
Son played the role of Dr. Evil's henchman Random Task. See the video below for his part in the movie.
