Australia Day 'Very Significant' for Nation

Australians will be celebrating Australia Day on January 26, a public holiday in Australia.

Australians consider this as a very important day of the year. Australia Day will be celebrated by the locals through joining different family gathering as well as public events. This includes commemorating the establishment of the first settlement or First Fleet back in 1788.

"Whether it be through attending major events, taking part in a local community celebration or simply getting your friends and family together, Australia Day plays a significant role in our sense of belonging, unity and identity" said Council chief executive, Warren Pearson, in an interview with Australian Associated Press

To mark that day fireworks will be on display, an Australian of the Year Awards will be presented and there will be family picnics and other cultural events to recognize the contribution of ethnic communities.

Australia Day plays a vital role for the Aussies to take pride of their nation and culture bringing unity amongst them as the spirit of being an Australian becomes more alive on that day.
