Aurelio Vidmar is tasked to take charge of the Australia Socceroos in an interim capacity, but the former Socceroos skipper is reluctant to hint on his interest to take the helm permanently.

"At this stage I don't even want to talk about any of that," Vidmar told The Sydney Morning Herald.

Predecessor Holger Osieck was ousted because Australia received a couple of 6-0 thrashing in the hands of Brazil and just recently, France.

He answered in the negative when asked if he saw the Tuesday friendly against Canada as a tryout but rather pointed out that the team's performance in the match takes preference.

"For us it's a matter of trying to get a fit team out on the park and trying to perform as best we can," he added.

"There are a number of players carrying injuries and niggles so we are scratching the surface really to have many fit players."

"The way football works is I was the assistant coach and someone needs to take the game for the international game on Tuesday and that's me. That's how it is."

Former manager Guus Hiddink has been rumoured to take over, while other foreigner coaches like Marcelo Bielsa and Roberto Di Matteo are also in the rumour mill.

With the homegrown coaches such as Ange Postecoglou and Graham Arnold in the mix, Vidmar would be delighted if an Australian manager would be appointed as successor.

"Obviously, yes that would be nice and probably one day that'll happen," Vidmar expressed of his approval to the appointment of an Australian coach.

He furthermore said that there were no guarantees that he would retain his role as an assistant, should a new manager be appointed.

"At the end, the organisation will have to make a decision about what's going to happen moving forward," he added.
