Australia has turned to the United States for skilled workers led by electricians and plumbers that are now highly in demand by local industries.

The Australian government has announced that skilled American workers will be allowed entry to the country even before they have secured their visa for work.

Federal Skills Minister Chris Evans said that on arrival issuance of licence for work will be allowed especially those in the field of civil engineering to fill in manpower shortages in the country.

"This is a great opportunity to address skill shortages in Australia by filling shortfalls in particular areas with qualified candidates from the US, with applications expected to open from mid-April," he said in a statement today.

With the new approved system of hiring American engineers and other skilled workers, the work candidates need not endure the long waiting time as they seek a work visa and the actual start of work.

Mr. Evans explains that in the new approved process, U.S. workers will be evaluated according to the regulatory requirements before entering the country to shorten up the process.

He notes that this privilege has been available to other nations and it is only fitting and logical that the U.S. should be included.

Australia is set to run its overseas Skills Australia Needs Expo in the U.S. for the first time to attract skilled workers from North America, the office of Immigration Minister Chris Bowen said in an issued statement.
