Indian authorities released Australian cricketer Luke Pomersbach on bail on Saturday, a day after the Royal Challengers Bangalore player was arrested for allegedly molesting a woman and assaulting her fiance.

Police said the incident occurred at a party in the woman's hotel room in Delhi on Thursday after Bangalore's game against the Delhi Daredevils.

A Delhi court on Saturday ordered him to turn over his passport and released him on bail of 60,000 rupees ($1,088).

The 27-year-old Pomersbach, who played one Twenty20 International in 2007, called the allegations against him "sickening" and said he was "very relieved" to be released.

"I am looking forward to get to the bottom of the investigation," he said, adding that he had "faith in the justice system" in India.

Pomersbach hasn't played for Bangalore in this year's Indian Premier League, and franchise owner Vijay Mallya said on Friday that he would not be selected until the case was resolved.

This is not the first time Pomersbach has run into trouble with police. He pleaded guilty to driving with an excessive blood alcohol level and obstructing police in 2009, when he had tried to escape custody after a car accident in Perth. The incident led to his suspension by the West Australian Cricket Association.

In 2007, Pomersbach and Western Australia team-mate Shaun Marsh were suspended for engaging in a heavy drinking session just days before the team flew to Adelaide for a match against South Australia.
