A report by Pew Research, released in August 2014, predicts sexbots would be replaced by love dolls by 2025. However, paedophiles in Australia have been importing child sex dolls that are anatomically correct and look like real children as young as five.

Australian border officials, however, are cracking down on the child sex dolls. Since 2013, they have confiscated 18 shipments of the dolls made in Japan specifically to help paedophiles control their sexual urges.

Some of the imports are made by Japanese manufacturer Trottla which produces over 100 different child-like sex dolls. The founder of the company, Shin Takagi, an admitted paedophile, defends the creation of child-like sex dolls as helping people like him channel their desires away from real minors, reports 9News.

He said there is no other way to change fetishes like sexual desire for young children. “I am helping people express their desires, legally and ethically. It’s not worth living if you have to live with repressed desire,” explains Takagi.

Atlantic cites a meta-analysis by the Mayo Clinic which concluded treatments for paedophiles, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy, chemical castration and other interventions which aim to suppress urges, “do not change the pedophile’s basic sexual orientation toward children.”

Because the Australian Border Force considers possession of the child-like sex dolls an offence, they seize the sex toys since it is considered a child exploitation material. A spokeswoman of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection said the Border Force is working with the Australian Federal Police and state police agencies to target and confiscate the sex dolls and bring to court those who seek its possession or already own one.

The penalty for the importation of the doll is up to $450,000 and 10 years prison term.
