Australian Deputy PM Warren Truss In Hospital For Colitis
Australian Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss is in a Brisbane hospital for gastroenteritis and acute dehydration. He has been in the medical facility for at least one day.
According to The Australian, Truss, who is also the Nationals leader and Infrastructure and Regional Development minister, has diarrhea that led to inflammation of the bowel.
He was last seen at the House of Representatives on Friday to listen to British Prime Minister David Cameron address the Australian Parliament. However, because of his medical condition, Truss missed the speeches by Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.
He expects to stay in the hospital until the weekend, although the ailment is minor. That means the 66-year-old deputy PM would be absent for the Friday cabinet meeting and could possibly be not well enough yet on Monday to perform his parliamentary duties when it resumes session. He plans to still attend the cabinet meeting through teleconferencing.
His office said the deputy PM is making good progress. The Queensland MP is considered a low-key politician.
