Australian males are almost equally diligent with their female counterparts when it comes to cleaning the refrigerator, considered as one of the most important appliances at home.

Forty-one per cent (41%) of Australian men claimed they clean their refrigerator at least once a month, compared to forty-five per cent (45%) of Australian women. Almost the same amount of Australia men (6%) and women (7%) claim they clean their refrigerator at least once a week.

These findings by Samung Refrigerator Hygiene survey show that Australian males go against the stereotype when it comes to cleaning, showing they are almost equally as diligent as their female counterparts when it comes to cleaning out the refrigerator.

However, the survey also revealed that while men may be stepping up in the cleaning stakes, in general many Australians do not clean their refrigerators regularly. One in four Australians cleaning their fridge only once every two to three months, and nearly one in ten cleaning their fridge just once a year.

The survey also uncovered the events that prompt consumers to clean their fridge. Interestingly, men place greater emphasis on fridge cleanliness and its potential to impress their other half than women, with 22% of Aussie men claiming a visit from their partner would prompt them to clean their refrigerator, compared to 17% of Aussie women under the same circumstances.

Australians are keen to show their mothers that they are capable cleaners. Twenty-two per cent (22%) of Australians say they would clean their fridge visit in preparation for a visit from their partner's mother, while twenty-five per cent (25%) would clean their fridge visit in preparation for a visit from their own mother.

The survey was conducted by Newspoll for Samsung Home Appliances, with 1209 respondents aged 18 to 64 years old nationally. The results were released by Samsung Electonics Australia.
