23-year old Alex D'Aleo passed away on a European trip in Croatia at a popular tourist spot. He was trying to jump from one boat to another when he hit his head.

The young Sydney man's friends and family, in particular his twin brother Lucas, have been grieving over his death. Lucas wrote on Facebook that he was blessed to have spent twenty three years with him by his side when they were fighting but the love between them was always there. He added that he was glad that they got to travel the world together before his death. He also wrote that hours before the accident took place, the boys were drinking beers and carrying on in the sun and that is what they did best.

Alex, a plumber, lived in the Sutherland area and was attending the yacht week in Croatia. Social media shows that the young tradesman was travelling through Europe with his friends. He had visited the international festival in Belgium and visited popular tourist destinations like Barcelona and Ibiza. He was on a four-month party tour of Europe along with his twin and friends.

The accident took place at Omis, 20 kilometres south of Split. His friends and he were at the annual Split Yacht Week festival when the fatal accident happened between two anchored boats. He drowned which caused his death. Several people jumped into the water but were unsuccessful at saving him. A police spokesman said that a member of the voluntary firefighting service recovered Alex's body.

During the European summer, Croatia is a hot spot where thousands of people come to the coast for sailing and to be a part of the full-of-life parties.

James Morrissey, who had met D'Aleo a week ago, was devastated at the news of his death and wrote on social media that his last memory of Alex would be him having the time of his life with his friends. He wrote, "RIP you legend."

Consular assistance will be provided to his family by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Parents, Cattina and Nicco, were consoled by family and friends at the family home in Taren Point. A family friend noted that Mrs. D'Aleo was devastated at losing her soon and that her kids were her world.

Just before starting the trip, Alex had written on Facebook that one day, life will flash before us so we have to make it worth watching.
