Australian Model, Lana Helen O'Connell Dead at 23
The 23-year-old Australian model, Lana Helen O'Connell, died from a motorcycle accident in Phuket, Thailand. Her 23-year-old boyfriend Ken Trivett, who was driving at that time, was sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital to get treated for his head injuries.
The accident happened last Saturday, Feb. 25 at around 3:30 a.m. when they overtook a sidecar selling food just outside the Lamsing Hi-So nightclub according to the information released by the Phuket Gazette and Gold Coast Bulletin.
According to reports, their motorcycle swung over the road and crashed straight into another bike.
Siriwat Phatkor, the driver of the third bike in the accident, obtained minor injuries, and was sent to Phuket International Hospital for treatment.
Initial reports showed that alcohol could have been one of the main reasons for the accident. Ms. O'Connell also wasn't wearing a helmet according to police.
She was a swimsuit model and a student at Griffith University. Her mother Marilyn expressed sorrow on Facebook by writing that her family was completely distressed.
Her Facebook status quoting "Only the good die young" showed how much they truly loved her. Her mother continued paying tribute for her lovely daughter by posting messages on the said social networking site.
Her boyfriend's sister also paid tribute by giving gratitude for making her brother's life extra special.
Lana O'Connell was chosen for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. According to Joanne Rahn, swimwear designer, she has always been professional and often selected for major events.
She's one of the models, who were believed would have a brighter future in their career. The Department of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman reported that officials from the Australian embassy in Bangkok were giving consular help to the families of the couple.
