Australian model and TV star Nikki Phillips talks about her cancer diagnosis for the first time. She said that having been diagnosed with cancer has turned her world "upside down."

She was born in New Zealand and is now based in Sydney. She was diagnosed with having stage three cervical cancer when she was just 23 years old. It happened after a routine Pap smear that came back irregular.

This 29-year-old model remembered that when her doctor told her that the results of her test came back irregular and told her directly that she has cervical cancer, she said that she did not listen to a word after that declaration.

The supermodel thought and felt that everything in her world turned upside down. She felt invincible and never thought that she would ever have cancer.

With this bad news, she had to take a year-long break from modeling as well as having to take a leave from her television hosting duties. After the cancer diagnosis, she had to undergo immediate treatment as the cancer was already stage three.

Afterwards, she underwent emergency surgery and a loop incision in order to remove the large cancerous cells on her cervix.

She revealed that she had always been nervous when she had to wait for her pap smears results but this was nothing compared to that.

With the cancer diagnosis, she re-evaluated her life and career.

She said that she had an amazing group of friends but then suddenly no one wanted to hang out with her. This was certainly a big shock for her. She spent the next few years having Pap smears at six month intervals.

She said that she realized how important a pap smear is to a woman. She said that it is worth the awkwardness as it is nothing compared to the invasive and painful procedures you have to go through with cervical cancer. She encourages everyone to have regular Pap smears to help prevent cervical cancer.
