A freak driveway accident caused the death of a two-year-old boy and injured a 63-year-old man in Victoria on Monday night. The incident was the result of a 32-year-old woman accidentally stepping on the gas pedal instead of the brake while she was about to park her car on the lawn.

Her son and father were sitting on the porch of their house in Sorrento on Mornington Peninsula at that time.

A paramedic who responded to the accident said the boy suffered a large cut on the head and internal injuries. The boy's grandfather, who was crushed between the car and the house wall, suffered chest injuries and fractured his arm.

The grandfather is confined at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition.

A similar accident occurred in Sydney last week when a man ran over his toddler daughter while he was backing out of his driveway. The baby also died.
