Jacob French began his long trek from Perth (with an ultimate goal of reaching Sydney) to raise $50,000 for the Starlight Foundation, a charitable organization which helps children with serious or life-threatening illnesses.

"... I will cross 4 states and cover approximately 5000km's in modified stormtrooper armour. The plan for now is to push a lightweight buggy with needed supplies an average distance of 35-40km's for 5 days a week until the trek is complete," wrote French on his project called "Troopertrek 2011."

French, also known as TK-6283, is an Australian member of an organization called the 501st Legion. The 501st Legion is comprised of Star Wars fans who dress up in Star Wars costumes to raise funds and awareness for charitable groups.

Initially inspired by the RunMelb Half Marathon which he participated in October of 2010, he is wearing Stormtrooper armor specially modified for the trek which began in July this year.

To date, he is around midway to his official destination.

"Based on my original time frame I should be finishing up any day now, instead I've still got months to go and another 3000km but it's been worth it because the support keeps me going and I wanted to get the message out there," described French, according to News Limited.

However, it's not easy to walk around forty kilometers every day in a suit of armor.

"Coming across the Nullarbor, there was a week where I barely saw anyone and I'm trekking along in stormtrooper costume across the edge of the desert in 35 degree heat going 'I must be crazy to do this'," added French.

Despite the hardships he's facing, French is dedicated to the cause and has even quit his job to devote all his time to it.

"I quit my job so that I would have the time to complete the trek. I actually have NO sponsors for this trek - everything has either been funded completely by myself or occasionally donated... If however, they were interested in funding the next 2 months seeing as I am now broke," wrote French on his official Facebook page.

So far, he has raised $35,503.20 AUD for the cause, according to his official page on Everyday Hero.
