After witnessing the Wallabies lose five out of their last six tests, former Wallaby Michael Lynagh criticised James O'Connor for the latter's seemingly lax demeanor.

O'Connor was seen laughing and smiling with the South African players on Saturday following their loss, which enraged Lynagh.

''James O'Connor was laughing with the Springboks at the end and while it's OK to be a good sportsman, I don't think a willy-nilly performance like that hurts them enough.'' Lynagh told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Lynagh thinks that the Wallabies lack a sense of urgency despite their poor showing in the recent months.

''Australia are in a huge hole and I think that is because they have got too comfortable,'' he added.

Moreover, O'Connor is one of the "problem child" of the team as he was involved in off-field disturbance when he was seen at a restaurant at 4 am, days before their game against the British and Irish Lions.

On the other hand, O'Connor was quick to defend himself and described that he feels "gutted" each time Australia loses.

''You're gutted every time ... you're never ready for it. It's not something you enjoy,'' O'Connor said.

''I leave everything out on the field, I play my guts out and then after the 80 minutes you congratulate your opponents.

''You don't see what happens behind closed doors in the change rooms.

''You don't want guys moping around after a loss because that's the easy thing to do. You have to start preparing for the next week.''

The Wallabies will be playing Argentina on Saturday at Patersons Stadium, Perth.
