Controversies of racism and scenes of violence aptly upped the level of curiosity of Aussie folks as they stormed the movie theaters to witness all there is to "Django Unchained," ultimately helping the Quentin Tarantino's latest movie to rake in $3.802 million on its opening weekend alone.

Despite criticism from various groups such as Al Sharpton's National Action Network and Project Islamic Hope on the film's content and visual effects, the movie outshone the fantasy adventure family film 'Life of Pi,' which came in at second with $1.875 million total earnings for the weekend of January 24-27.

Just last week, the film figured in yet another spectacle when virtual marketplace eBay pulled out from its shelves the controversial 'Django Unchained' toys after the Weinstein Company, the film's producer and likewise facilitated the creation of the toys, discontinued making them. Weinstein Company was only able to facilitate the release of about 1,000 pieces of the toys before the sale was abruptly halted.

'Django Unchained' stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington and Samuel L Jackson.
