'Australia's Got Talent' Axed, Aussies React on Twitter
"Australia's Got Talent" has been cancelled after six seasons, with Andrew de Silva being the last crowned winner. Either Australia has run out of talent, or Seven Network just couldn't win a solid number of audience.
Australia's Got Talent is a reality talent show which premiered in February 2007 on Channel Seven.
The show was based on Freemantle UK's 'Got Talent' format with Simon Cowell. Grant Denyer had hosted all six seasons of the Australia show, with Dannii Minogue joining the judge panel also from the beginning.
The Seven Network had reportedly been pondering the fate of the talent show for a couple of weeks before it decided on the cancellation.
In a report by The Telegraph, production cost for Australia's Got Talent had increased 33 per cent year-on-year. However, the audience had been reduced to only 50 per cent of original viewers.
In 2011, AGT's best year, the show enjoyed an average of 1.94 million viewers a week. The broadcast of the year's winner (Jack Vidgen) in July 2011 was 2.98 million. In contrast, only 1.19 million watched the finale this year.
It has been reported that Channel 7 will be keeping Dannii Minogue. But the details have to be clarified as to what she'd do for the network.
It is understood Minogue's colleagues Kyle Sandilands and Brian McFadden, as well as host Grant Denyer, will be released from their contracts.
