Australia's unemployment rate went down to 5.2 per cent in October, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics which released the report on Thursday.

The October figure is an improvement from September when joblessness rate was at 5.3 per cent.

The slight increase was because of 10,100 new jobs which boosted total unemployment to 11.462 million in October. It was slightly higher than economists' forecast of 10,000 new jobs for the past month.

Full-time employment rose at a faster pace by 20,000 new jobs which brought total full-time employed people to 8.068 million. Seasonally adjusted workforce participation rate, which measures the proportion of working-age people employed or actively looking for a job was unchanged at 65.6 per cent in September.

The country's unemployment rate is much better compared to other countries. CommSec Chief Economist Craig James said the lower unemployment rate is an indicator of the better shape of the Australian economy although he lamented that it is not reflected in the sharemarket or currency.
