Perth-born, ‘Avatar’ actor, Sam Worthington has been cast for ‘Drift’, considered as the biggest surf movie since ‘Point Break’.Worthington who played physically challenged Jake Sully in ‘Avatar’ is expected to return to his hometown of Perth where the film, said the National Film Agency Screen Australia, is targeted for production shoot.

‘Drift’ is a story of the challenges faced by the Fisher Brothers in a remote Australian coastal town as they start a new life after escaping their ‘brutal’ past.

The film, set in 1972 shows the Fishers standing up against ‘suspicious Perth locals, killer waves and ruthless bikers’, according to Reuters. The conflict centers around the surfing business the Fishers brothers started in south west coastal town of Australia.

Citing the statement by Screen Australia’s acting chief executive Fiona Cameron, the Australian Associated Press said that Worthington will be working with Morgan O’Neill and Ben Nott as the film’s directors. O’Neill has penned the script for 'Drift'.

“The unique combination of surfing and performance expertise gives Drift the potential to be the first character-driven action movie set in the surfing world since Kathryn Bigelow’s Point Break,” the AAP quoted the statement as saying.

Worthington has also appeared in hit films in the last few years including ‘Worthington has also appeared in hit films in the last few years including ‘The Clash of the Titans” and “Terminator Salvation”. But his role on ‘Avatar’ is considered his greatest role that has propelled him to fame and made him one of the most popular actors in Hollywood today.
